Hello MFE students,

I am thrilled to be your career master for the Master of Science in Financial Engineering Programme (MFE) under the School of Data Science. Together with Ms Sisi Huang, we are here to support and guide you on your journeys towards figuring out and embarking on the first steps in your careers.

My career is not straight forward. Qualified as an accountant and a lawyer, I did not pursue either. I stumbled into investment banking and ended up in structured finance and securitisation, including as the regional head for this business at HSBC. I was a member of the Asset Securitization and Structured Financing Professional Committee of the National Association of Financial Market Institutional Investors (Mainland China) and am a Director of the Asia-Pacific Structured Finance Association (Hong Kong).   

During this programme, you will be provided with resources, advice, and opportunities to explore different fields, build professional network, and prepare for life after graduation. In addition to our excellent academic programme, we have an advisory committee comprised of leading academic and industrial experts from around the world, giving us guidance on how to enhance our programme in this evolving world. We have many industry practitioners working full time with leading employers sharing their experience and expertise as your instructors and mentors.

You will be supported by a developed network of alumni and this network is growing every year. You will have opportunities to interact with employers and professional associations in Mainland and beyond, including internship and graduate opportunities. You will have multiple opportunities each year to attend company visits and professional events in Shenzhen and Hong Kong each year, getting used to interactions with colleagues in professional settings. 

With your dedication and hard work, and the support of the entire MFE programme you will have the opportunity to be equipped with the necessary hard and soft skills to succeed in whichever direction you set your eyes on.
